Met a friend here for dinner. She has been going there for years. Was my first visit. Wow!! The food is amazing and they offer some interesting takes on traditional fare.

Get the Bhartha as it is probably the best I have ever had. Beats the Indian food in London and so reasonable.

Have been going to Akbar for almost two decades now, mostly the one in Pasadena (now closed) but over the years, here, on multiple occasions.  This place is really solid, especially if you really know Indian food.  I've been to India twice, so I have some idea of what I write.

A cozy 15-table place near the busy corner of Washington and Lincoln, parking might be a bit tricky, but def worth it.  At a recent lunch, I had teh Shrimp Madras and was struck by the very clean prep of the dish, lack of excess oil or cream, and the rich, spicy flavors and texture.  Yes, texture.  Great Indian food pleases the palette not only with rich flavor but also with its mouthfeel.  They do a great job here.

I wrote earlier about Gate of India (2-stars) and the vegetarian Samosa House (5 stars, also, but a cafeteria-style restaurant), and if you're looking for some excellent Indian dishes with meat, this would be a good choice.  Nice ambiance and service, so probably not that bad for a date either.  Enjoy.

We came in at 9:30 pm randomly off the street.  (They close at 10). Owner was very nice and none of the staff gave us side eye for coming in so late. Their condiments as one lady said was spicy.  I'm weak sauce when it comes to spicy, but i'm trying to build my tolerance.  And their condiments were excellent. Kept going back for more.
So i am so in love with the Bhartha.  From their menu 'World's best tandoor raosted eggplant sauteed with tomatoes and peas'
Absolutely loved it. The owner came by and explained the process of making it.  Long process I won't be making but will definitely be going back for more!

Best Indian food I've ever had... yes for real.
Not only is the food incredible, but they have a stellar wine selection. We were even given suggestions throughout the meal to enhance the flavors and experience. I can't recommend this place enough... hidden gem :)

I used to love Akbar, but I just ordered delivery and everything was over cooked and greasy. Naan, even the Padam was burnt. Chicken masala was super oily/greasy... samosas over cooked. Sad me!
